You can apply for our PhD programme by completing the Postgraduate Research Student Application form and related documents. It is a quick and easy process. Please choose the appropriate application pack below:
Completing your application
The application form asks for personal information, education history, employment history, references and, where appropriate, proof of English language ability. Students must also complete the Research Proposal form giving a summary of their proposal which will be reviewed for feasibility by an academic staff specializing in the area of research. For help to complete the Research Proposal from please examine the guidelines for completing a Research Proposal document.
International students also need to complete the UK Visa History which gives an overview of their time in the UK and Tier 4 Questionnaire which examines students’ motivation for and knowledge of the programme.
You will need to provide certain documents to support your application, for example evidence of your previous qualifications and a personal statement. Admission staff will give you a list of the supporting documents you need to submit.
Submitting your application
Once you have completed all the forms in the Application pack please send them to Admission staff at email@example.com.
Your application will then be reviewed by admission staff who, if necessary, will request any additional supporting documents.
After you have applied
Once all necessary admission documents have been collected the decision on the application is divided into three stages:
Stage 1: Admission Staff
Admission staff will assess whether your application fulfills the academic entry requirements for the programme and, where appropriate, the UK Visas and Immigration requirements. If these requirements are met admission staff will organise an interview with International applicants to assess your English Language ability.
Stage 2: Academic Staff
Academic staff in the Research Unit will assess your Research Proposal and academic background to ensure that you are an appropriate candidate for the programme. If approved an Academic Interview will be scheduled with a Research Supervisor to discuss your research proposal, the research programme at Amity and answer any questions which you have about the institution and the programme.
Stage 3: University of Bolton
The final stage of approval is the submission of the application to our partner institution the University of Bolton. If Bolton approve the application you will be sent an offer letter from admission staff at Amity.
A decision on applications is usually made within three weeks of receiving all the necessary documents from applicants.
For an overview of the application process for research students please view the Research Degree Admissions Flowchart.
When a decision has been made
Once a decision is made you will be notified by admission staff by email.
If you have been approved, you will be sent an offer letter which will include the start date of the programme, any conditions which need to be fulfilled and the amount payable for tuition fees. You will be requested to return a section of the letter to confirm that you want to accept the offer.
If you have not been offered a study place at Amity the email will contain the reason that your application has not been accepted.
If we decide to make you an offer, it will either be conditional or unconditional.
A conditional offer means that a requirement must be met before you can start the course, for example a certain English Language score or a minimum grade in your current studies.
An unconditional offer means that there are no further requirements which you need to meet.
If we make you a conditional offer the conditions will be stated in the letter.
Once you complete the conditions you should send Admission staff documents as proof. When you have completed all the conditions of the offer we will send you a new, unconditional offer.
An unconditional offer has no conditions. You just need to let us know whether or not you wish to accept or decline our offer of a study place.
Tuition Fees for International Students
If you are an International applicant, once you have accepted the unconditional offer we will ask you to pay 50% of your tuition fees before a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS) letter is issued.
For further information about the immigration procedure and the issuing of CAS letters please visit the International student application page of our website.
Induction and Registration
If you have accepted an unconditional offer for the programme you will be sent a pre-arrival guide about six weeks before the start of your course. It contains information about student life at Amity, living in London and your induction.
